Great service matters to us, and we’re always looking for ways to improve your experience with us.
That means working on every part of our business: the economic, the social and the environmental. In practice, it means caring about what we buy for the kitchen and how we handle food and waste. It also means paying attention to everyone, and making sure our guests and staff feel as good as they possibly can.
That’s why we’re proud to have been one of the first hostels in the Hostelling International network to be certified under the HI Quality Standard, recognising our sound routines and high standards. But this isn’t a one-off achievement. It means constantly rethinking how we do things. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we work on this every single day.
Through our HI certification, we’re part of a global community of around 3,500 HI hostels worldwide, all working towards the same goals. Together, we’re taking small steps every day towards a better future.

What we’re doing:
1. We’ve reduced food waste by partnering with the Too Good To Go app.
2. Our team follows daily routines to cut food waste in both the kitchen and the restaurant.
3. We continuously monitor our energy use, waste handling and environmental impact, so we can improve routines for both staff and guests.
4. We encourage guests to use public transport and promote it both on our website and at the hotel.
5. We encourage our staff to walk, cycle or take public transport to work whenever possible.
6. In partnership with HI Norway, we host volunteers from around the world who help us focus on social sustainability and carry out practical initiatives throughout the year.
7. Since 1 October 2017, we have been certified under Hostelling International’s sustainability programme, HI-Q&S.
8. For many years, we’ve partnered with organisations such as SOS Children’s Villages, Amnesty International, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and, most recently, the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue, to share a positive message with our guests and the wider world.
