A perfect starting point

Where good days begin

Welcome to
stasjonen hostel

Step off the train or bus and straight into our reception. Stasjonen Hostel is right in the centre of Lillehammer, in the historic station building from 1894, with the Olympic Park, Maihaugen and Lake Mjøsa all within walking distance.

We were one of the first hostels in the Hostelling International network to be quality certified, and we’ve been named one of the best hostels in the world. Here you’ll find affordable rooms, a relaxed atmosphere and a meeting place where travellers from all over the world cross paths.

Grab a coffee and our legendary Stasjonsvaffel in the café, and ask us for tips. We know Lillehammer inside out.

Lillehammer, a town made for adventure

Activities & Attractions

Lillehammer has something to offer all year round. Climb the 954 steps of the Olympic ski jump for the best view in town, follow the Mesnaelva river past waterfalls and swimming holes, or step back in time at Maihaugen. In winter, some of the world’s best cross-country trails start just minutes away. In summer, the hills open up for hiking and cycling.

Offers

Stolpejakten-package

With Stolpejakten, you get a simple and social way to explore Lillehammer — whether you walk alone or together with others. In Lillehammer, around 80 checkpoints have been placed throughout the city center, residential areas, and nature trails — ranging from easily accessible walks to more demanding routes.

Pilegrim Basecamp

Walk the most beautiful stages – stay in the same place. Gudbrandsdalsleden is stunning, but not every stage is equally spectacular — and not everyone wants to carry a backpack the entire way. Use Stasjonen as your base for 4 nights, take the train or bus out in the morning, walk the day’s stage, and return to the same bed each evening.

Lillehammer 360

Want to experience Lillehammer for real? This package takes you to three of the city’s best viewpoints — along the Mesna River, up to Lysgårdsbakken Ski Jump, and all the way to the summit of Balbergkampen. The Mesna River stretches around 10 kilometers through the city before flowing into Lake Mjøsa, and along the river you’ll follow trails, small waterfalls, and peaceful spots where you can discover your very own swimming hole. From the ski jump, the views begin to open up, before the hike reaches its peak at Balbergkampen, around 670 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of Gudbrandsdalen and Lake Mjøsa.

in the heart of it all

Stasjonen Hostel puts you right in the middle of Lillehammer. The charming pedestrian street, with its cafés, shops and cultural life, is just two blocks away, and the Lovers’ Path leads you down to Mosodden, one of the best beaches in town on Lake Mjøsa.

Trains and buses leave right outside our door, making us an easy and sustainable base for exploring the whole region. In winter, the Hafjell bus takes you from us straight to the slopes, and Sjusjøen and Nordseter offer endless miles of cross-country trails. In summer, regular buses run to Hunderfossen Adventure Park and the Norwegian Road Museum, which is free all year round.

Closer to home, the Olympic Park and Birkebeineren Ski Stadium are just a few kilometres away, where you can see where Olympic history was made in 1994.

No car needed. Everything you want to see is within easy reach.
