Lysgårdsbakkene Ski Jumps

Whatever the season and whatever your age, this is one of Lillehammer’s most iconic viewpoints, one that has been broadcast around the world.

Climb the 954 steps to the top of the 1994 Olympic ski jump, or simply drive up. Your reward is either way one of the finest views in town: a sweeping panorama of Lillehammer, the surrounding hills and the shimmering expanse of Lake Mjøsa.

Walks and Hikes

Mesnaelva River
The riverside trail along Mesnaelva, Lillehammer’s lifeblood, is an attraction in itself and one of the first places many visitors explore. Expect dramatic waterfalls, natural swimming holes and hidden spots along the way.

Most of the time the river runs calm and low, but after heavy rain or on days when water is released from the dams, it returns to its former glory: wild and thundering.

Where the trail turns back, by the Svarga bridge, stands the house of Marcello Haugen, a local figure said to have had psychic powers. The stories about him are many.

Mosodden
North of Mesnaelva and Stasjonen, the Lovers’ Path (Kjærlighetsstien) leads down towards Lake Mjøsa and Mosodden, one of the best beaches in town. It’s no secret, but it’s well worth a visit.

Go for a swim, or climb the bird-watching tower for a view over the wetlands.

Open air museum

Maihaugen

Maihaugen is Norway’s largest open-air museum and a journey through Norwegian history from the 1200s to the present day. Stroll among stave churches, farmsteads, mountain summer farms and a fishermen’s chapel. In summer, the grounds come alive with horses, sheep, pigs and goats, along with a herb garden and much more.

The museum grounds are open all year from 7 am to 10 pm. From June to September, there is an admission fee between 10 am and 5 pm; outside those hours, entry is free.

A must if you want to step back in time, learn something new, or see how people in the Gudbrandsdalen valley lived in the 18th and 19th centuries.

For the family

Hunderfossen

Hunderfossen Themepark is known as the Fairy tale Park in all of Norway and is one of Norway’s most popular tourist attractions. There are over 60 rides and activities for the whole family here.

Stasjonen Hotell is the perfect base for a day at Hunderfossen, located just 20-minutes from us. The local Hunderfossen bus departs just outside our door running all through the summer season.

Step into the magical world of the trolls, with rafting, roller coasters, the Energy Centre, the Children’s Farm, a water park and go-karts.

For the grown-ups, there’s a coffee bar serving freshly baked cinnamon buns at the local bakery inside the park. A great way to relax as the children explore all the fun elements of this very original and norwegian family park.

In the heart of the city

We are located in the heart of Lillehammer. More than a hotel, more than a restaurant and much more than a café.

We’re a meeting place for so many people, and we’re incredibly proud of that.

Drop by to catch up over a cup of coffee, or treat your date to one of our legendary Station Waffles. A heart like that is bound to last forever.

We welcome travellers passing through and locals alike, whether they’re here for the weekend, for leisure or for work.
Stations have always been about movement. They’re hubs where people come and go, where stories cross paths and new journeys begin.

In the same way, Stasjonen Hotell has become a modern hub in Lillehammer for business travellers, cabin-goers, students, families, conference guests and groups of friends.

In a town with proud traditions and great experiences all year round, Stasjonen is a place you can always come back to.

Skiing & Cycling

Nature has no entrance fee, and sometimes peace and quiet, a great view and a walk in the woods are exactly what you need.

The mountains around Lillehammer offer some of the world’s best cross-country skiing, with mile after mile of freshly groomed trails. Closer to town, there’s a floodlit trail and a ski stadium.

For something truly memorable, try skiing by headlamp after dark.

In the warmer months, the same landscape opens up for hiking and cycling, with trails and routes for every level, from gentle rides to summit hikes with panoramic views.

Norwegian Road Museum

For some, it’s all about cars!

Right next to Hunderfossen, just a short drive from Stasjonen Hotell, you’ll find the Norwegian Road Museum.

It’s a natural stop for anyone interested in motoring history, machinery and heavy vehicles, but there’s more: an old-fashioned country store, what might be the world’s cosiest petrol station, and, if you dare, a 245-metre tunnel blasted straight into the mountain.

Children love it, even on rainy days, since there’s plenty to explore indoors.

Admission is free, all year round.
